Money, Qi and Your Confidence
I remember watching an English comedy panel show—might’ve been Would I Lie To You?—where one of the guests dismissed Feng Shui as total nonsense. A part of me laughed along. Of course it sounds a bit ridiculous: if your furniture isn’t facing the right direction, your life won’t work out? Come on. But another part of me thought—they just don’t get it.
Feng Shui, in its popularised form, can seem superstitious. But if you zoom out a little and see it through the lens of Chinese Medicine, you might realise it’s actually just about harmony. Internal and external. And that’s where today’s topic sits: what if your organs—the Zang Fu—are their own kind of internal Feng Shui? What if the way your body runs, the state of your energy, your hormones, your adrenal health… actually reflects out into how you relate to the world, to confidence, to money?
Let’s talk kidneys
In Chinese Medicine, the Kidney system governs your essence—your Jing. It’s your reserve, your survival strength, your ability to stand strong in a world that sometimes feels like a storm. On a physical level, it’s linked to adrenal function, hormone balance, your drive and your ability to bounce back. On an emotional level, it governs fear… and confidence.
If your Kidney Qi is weak, you feel it. You might feel overwhelmed. Small. As if the world is just too much. But when it’s strong, you feel capable. Clear. Stable. You don’t need to fake confidence—you are confidence.
And that’s where money comes into this
Money, for modern humans, is a proxy for survival. In tribal times, we didn’t need it—we resourced directly from nature. We hunted, gathered, traded skills, and collaborated. Now? We earn. We buy. We budget. We stress. In many ways, money has inserted itself into the space that used to be filled by direct connection with the natural world.
So it’s no surprise that people who feel tired, depleted or constantly overwhelmed often also struggle with financial confidence. And while this isn’t to say that kidney health equals wealth—let’s not get too reductionist—there is a fascinating overlap here.
I remember once hearing someone say that your kidney and adrenal health affects your relationship with money. I initially dismissed it as rubbish. But over time, I’ve seen it clinically and personally. I’ve watched people build energy, restore adrenal balance, and start making different decisions. Not just financially—but in how they show up. They start to own their space.
The feedback loop of confidence and wealth
Is money the cause of confidence? Or is confidence what allows us to go out and earn, hold, or enjoy money? Probably both. It’s a feedback loop. When the kidneys are strong, we stand taller. We face the world. When we feel secure financially, we relax deeper. That relaxation nourishes Yin, supports the bones, regulates the hormones. It’s all connected.
I’ve also noticed something else over the years: people who are financially secure—truly secure—often move through life with a calmer nervous system. They’re less jumpy, less reactive. Their Qi feels grounded. Their bones seem denser, like their bodies know they’re not under threat. It’s as if wealth, when held in a healthy way, quiets the survival part of the brain. The sympathetic system can soften. Their breath slows. Their posture changes. It’s not just about money—it’s about how the nervous system registers safety.
So maybe the real Feng Shui starts inside you
This blog isn’t here to tell you that you’ll get rich from acupuncture. But it is here to say that how you feel in yourself—the quality of your Qi, the state of your Kidney energy—does influence how you meet the world. Including the parts of life that involve money, confidence, and survival.
So maybe the real Feng Shui isn’t in your lounge room, maybe it starts in you.
